Texas Political Idol?

By Vince Leibowitz  on Jan 16, 2007 in 80th Legislature

I just watched the first seven minutes of Season 82 of American Idol. I feel as though this show has been on my entire life. I’ve gone from hating it, to loving it, to being indifferent about it, to loving it again, to totally hating it.

The girl sitting on the floor crying in front of the judges and Jewl did it for me this season. I’l tune in after the contestants are whittled down to 8 or 10 and re-evaluate things, but I sispect the seven minutes I watched the show tonight will be all I’ll bother with this season.

Personally, I’d rather see Craddick and some of his allies select committee members in a format like this. At least it’d be amusing:

Craddick: Mr. Dunnam, what would your first piece of legislation be if I named you Chairman of the Health and Human Services Committee?

Dunnam: I would provide every child in Texas access to health insurance.

Craddick: I see. Guys?

Hartnett: He’s not idol material, Tom. I’ll vote no.

Delisi: I’ll have to vote no, too, Mr. Speaker.

Craddick: I’m sorry, Mr. Dunnam. You are not the next chair we’re looking for.
