52 Percent Of Texans Disapprove Of Perry’s Job Performance

By Vince Leibowitz  on Jan 20, 2007 in Texas Governor

Although only 39 percent of Texans voted for him, Texas Governor Rick Perry somehow has a 45 percent approval rating now, according to a new Survey USA poll. A majority of Texans, 52 percent, disapprove of the job Perry is doing as governor. Three percent simply aren’t sure (probably because they don’t read blogs).
It’s possible that, following the election, Perry picked up some wayward Republicans that had found their way into Carole Keeton Strayhorn’s welcoming arms during the election but have since decided Perry is still their man.

Breaking the survey down by various classifications, 49 percent of men and 55 percent of women disapprove of Perry’s performance. 56 percent of 18-34 year olds (a big blog reading demographic) disapprove of Perry’s performance. 51 percent of 35-54 year olds are disapproving, as are 48 percent of those 55 and over.

In terms of race, Perry tied in approval and disapproval ratings among whites (48 approve, 48 disapprove, 4 not sure), and had a 60 percent disapproval rating among African Americans.

Somehow, though, 53 percent of Hispanics actually approve of the Governor’s performance. Perhaps it’s because Latino Leaders Magazine named him to their “101 Most Influental Latino Leaders” list. Hummmm.

By party lines, a mere 30 percent of Republicans disapprove of the Governor’s performance (keep drinking that Kool-Aid!) while 64 percent of Democrats disapprove of his performance. (Perhaps the 33 percent that approves of his job performance doesn’t read blogs?).

Among “conservatives,” Perry’s disapproval was higher than it was for plain old “Republicans,” coming in at 34 percent. 58 percent of “moderates” disaprove of the governor’s performance, as do 75 percent of liberals (evidently the remaining 25 percent doesn’t read blogs).

Regionally, Perry’s worst approval rating was in Harris County, where his disapproval rating was a whopping 69 percent. In East Texas, the disapproval rating was 47 percent; it was 37 percent in West Texas and 55 percent in North Texas.

Only twenty points to go and he’s qualified for Vice-President.
