Slow Monday Morning Link Dump

By Vince Leibowitz  on Jan 22, 2007 in Link Dump

It’s a slow Monday morning news-wise (at least at this point).

So, consider this an open thread…or something. Here are a few links for you to examine and ponder:

If you’ve been wondering what former Congressman Jim Turner (D-Crockett) has been up to since leaving Congress, The Chron has the scoop.

A federal appeals court has ruled against hourse slaughtering in Texas.

As has been the case for the last several legislative sessions, there is buzz about casino gambling and the Lege.

If you’ve been wondering what the skinny is on the HPV vaccine bill the right-wingers have been moaning about on TV this weekend, check this out.

Think it is tough to find a place to smoke in bars in Dallas and other major metro areas? A proposed bill would make it a lot tougher—everywhere.

Evidently, there is less demand for new area codes these days.

Here is an interesting story about a forgotten war journal turning up in E-Texas.

If your head is still spinning over the entry of what seems like 50 people into the presidential race in one weekend, the WSJ distills it all into a nice little chart.

Regarding the HPV vaccine bill, I’m not so keen on that. As someone who is pro-choice, I do not believe the government should be mandating health-care decisions for young women. While I certainly do hope that the vaccine will help to stop the spread of HPV, and that the cost will come down to the level where most young women and their parents will choose it, I just don’t like the principal of it.
