80th Legislature: No Breasts On Billboards

By Vince Leibowitz  on Jan 25, 2007 in 80th Legislature

State Rep. Charlie Howard (R-Sugar Land) evidently does not like women’s breasts…at least on signs for sexually oriented businesses.

His HB 880 might as well be this session’s “sexy cheerleader bill.” And, it uses the word “areola.” It regulates the number of types of signs a sexually oriented business may have. Nuidity is out.
It defines “nude” as:

(A)  entirely unclothed; or
(B)  clothed in a manner that leaves uncovered or visible through less than fully opaque clothing any portion of the breasts below the top of the areola of the breasts, if the person is female, or any portion of the genitals or buttocks.

Oh. My. Under the legislation, sexually oriented business can only have two on-premises signs identifying a sexually oriented business:

Each sign may not exceed 40 square feet in size and may include only the business’s name, street address, telephone number, and operating hours.  A sign authorized by this subsection may not contain obscene material or a depiction of a nude person.

Violations would be a Class B Misdemeanor.

FINALLY! Someone looking out for my areolas… I mean really? I’m glad this is taking up space and possible court time to prosecute people for advertising their business. We all know all of the republican members are these places number one secret customer, anyway.
