Voucher Advocates Storming The Capitol; Anti-Voucher Forces Rally From Home
By Vince Leibowitz on Feb 7, 2007 in 80th Legislature
By now, I’d expect that the Capitol is full of voucher advocates—from private school students to students who are home schooled to the parents of both and who knows, maybe even Leininger will show up.
So, while the Voucher Advocates are running amok in the Capitol, the Texas Federation of Teachers, is asking anti-voucher advocates to “Rally From Home:”
We don’t expect you to show up at the capitol on such short notice–but you can counter the voucher lobby’s message with a “Rally From Home” in support of educating every Texas child. All it takes is your home computer and telephone. On February 7, just e-mail or call your legislator to say “NO” to vouchers on February 7.
You also can encourage everyone you know to speak up, because your whole community will be hurt if vouchers drain funds from your public schools. By joining this Rally from Home next week, you and your network of friends, family, and colleagues can join Texans from 40 other organizations that are partners with TFT in the Coalition for Public Schools.
Our e-mails and calls will give lawmakers the countervailing perspective they need on a day when the voucher lobby is selling its story all over the capitol. Participating is just a few clicks away when you go to www.tft.org, (click on “Virtual Lobby Day Opposing Vouchers”) where you will find talking points about vouchers and directions to find out how to contact your state legislator.
