HHS Head Confirmation Won’t Be Tomorrow

Health and Human Services Commissioner Albert Hawkins was scheduled to appear before the Senate Nominations Committee on Wednesday, but his name was pulled from the witness list yesterday, QR reports.
State Sen. Mike Jackson, chair of the committee, reportedly pulled Hawkins’ name off the list because some senators were still preparing their questions. Hawkins is expected to face tough questions about implementation of the executive order Governor Perry issued concerning HPV vaccines.
However, one source has advised Capitol Annex that it is rumored Texas Governor Rick Perry asked that Hawkins be pulled. Whether that had to do with questions he was expected to face—or if it is even correct—are unknown.
