Leave it to State Sen. Dan Patrick (R-Houston) to pull a stunt like this:
To publicize his ideas for the state budget, Houston senator and talk-show host Dan Patrick held a press conference at the Capitol this morning standing next to what he said was $1 million in cash.
The bottom line: The guy who’s probably the most conservative member of the Legislature wants to scale back last year’s property tax cuts and to increase the amount of time lawmakers spend in the Capitol working on the state budget.
But, everyone wanted to know, where did he get the million dollars? Patrick said he put down collateral and borrowed the money for a day and would soon return it. He didn’t want to give more details than that.
Actually, you can “rent” a million dollars, from what I understand. There are companies that will actually rent large amounts of cash like this for such stunts (mattress commercials, music videos, etc.). Perhaps he could have called one of them.
