Obama Mania

Barack Obama’s Texas trip has made quite a number of headlines in the state.
I can’t say that the cowboy hat did him much justice (or vice versa), but he seemed to have thrilled the crowds:
Iman Houston, 24, a University of Texas School of Law student, was among dozens of fans who shook Obama’s hand. Smiling, Houston said: “I’ve never met anyone who’s just a mega demigod.” Her heart fluttered, she said, adding: “We had energy going between us. I could feel his sincerity.”
“Electric,” said Victor Obaseki, 25, another law student who shook Obama’s hand. “He made you understand how change and hope” can manifest itself.
Crowd members waved red, white and blue “Obama ‘08″ placards as he touched campaign themes, including access to universal health care, higher teacher salaries and less expensive college student loans.
Obama spoke at the end of a week during which he stumped in Iowa, site of the critical first caucuses of the presidential race, rather than appear in a Nevada forum with other Democratic candidates.
Interesting.

I know it happens to me too every cycle, we get all juked up about the top of the ticket, but the real game is happening in our own neighborhoods. When we organize and act locally is when we really start to get some pull. Sure, go out and see the rock stars kiddies, but don’t forget to let your councilman, state reps, and congress critters know that you’re going to hold their feet to the fire.
