Talton Amendment To Floor Substitue Of Jessica’s Law

Oh, my. Talton has just said that even in light of the higher penalties, a seventeen year old having consentual sex with a 13 year old the should be prosecuted because 17 year olds and 13 year olds should never be having sex.

Well, of course, they shouldn’t be. But, if you ask someone who teaches school how many such relationship exists.

Talton also seems to miss the point entirely that even the consentual act can be prosecuted *under current law* as statutory rape. He’s even admitted as such, but seems not to realize it.

Now, Madden is trying to make Talton see the light. Good luck with that.

Talton says a 15 and 17 year old having relations wouldn’t be covered under his amendment. Madden is trying very hard to make Talton see reason. He just used the phrase “legitimate romance.”

Ok, now Talton says a 14-year old is an 8th grader. I think, so far, Talton has said 12 and 13-year-olds are in every grade from six to nine. Talton wants to protect the 12 year olds. He’s closed…now should come the vote…
