Remember that vote of “no confidence” we mentioned earlier? Here’s more on that:
In a show of frustration, a special legislative committee took a vote of no confidence Thursday in the Texas Youth Commission Board of Directors shortly after board members refused the legislators’ request to resign immediately.
Lufkin Democrat Jim McReynolds had the money quote, which has the added virture of being 100 percent on the spot:
“You’re responsible for 5,000 children that are incarcerated and they’re God’s children,” said Rep. Jim McReynold’s, a Democrat from Lufkin, in an emotional outburst directed at board members during the committee’s first hearing. “I read (investigation reports) last night ’til I wanted to vomit.
“The system is broken. You’re part of the broken system … I’m so terribly and horribly disappointed. How do you go to sleep at night?”
More as it develops.
