Power Limiting Legislation, Rumblings Of Impeachment Send Perry Making Office Calls

After spending a week in the Middle East with a stop in Dubai, Texas Governor Rick Perry is reportedly finally getting down to serious business next week—some 60 days after the legislative session actually got underway.

As attempts to limit Perry’s power wind their way through the Lege—such as the “veto session” legislation—and the first whispers of “impeachment” are heard in the halls of the Capitol as a result of Perry’s office’s inept handling of the Texas Youth Commission scandal and abuse of non-existant executive power, the governor is in serious “damage control” mode.

Perry reportedly has scheduled 30 one-on-one meetings over the next three days with members of the Texas Legislature.

Trekking through legislative offices (some of which he’s likely never set foot in) and stumping his programs as lawmakers are more disgruntled with him than ever cannot be Perry’s idea of a good time. Indeed, it’s likely a desparate move by a desparate governor.

What will Perry’s meetings accomplish? That’s a good question. I’m sure we’ll hear about them in the press, so it will make it appear to the public as though the Governor is getting down to business and trying to work out his problems with the Legislature. However, they could be mea culpa meetings if they are with some of his more conservative party members who have been alienated by some of his more recent actions.
