80th Legislature: House Elections Committee To Consider Voter ID Bills

At 2 p.m. today or upon final adjournment, Rep. Leo Berman’s House Committee on Elections will consider a pair of disasterous Voter ID bills: HB 218 and HB 626.
The True Courage Action Network and others have been sounding the alarm on these for several days.
At any rate, the committee should begin meeting shortly. These bills were considered in Public Hearing on February 28, and are up for vote today (according to Berman’s office, since I couldn’t get anyone at the Committee office to answer the phone as they are probably prepping for the hearing) even though they aren’t on today’s committee agenda.
At any rate, you can look at the witnesses that came out for and against these two bills (including none other than John Colyandro) and tell these are Republican bills to Suppress the turnout of poor and minority voters:
(HB 218) For:
Benkiser, Tina (Republican Party of Texas)
Borden, Bill (Self)
Johnson, Ed (Self)
Wallace, Skipper (Texas Republican County Chairman’s Association State Legislature Chairman)Registering, but not testifying:
For:
Collins, Mary Ann (Self)
Colyandro, John (Texas Conservative Coalition)
Duerstine, Russ (Tom Green County G.O.P.)
Citizens for Immigration Reform)
