MHMR Scandal: Death Toll Was Under Reported

It seems as though the MHMR scandal is getting a bit worse. Yesterday, officials with the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services adjusted the number of people who died in state facilities between June of 2005 and December 2006 up from 186 to 194. How you can manage to miss that many extra deaths is beyond me.

And, it seems as though Sen. Jane Nelson (R-Lewisville) has finally decided to call officials from the agency before the Senate HHS committee. She previously said she wouldn’t do so for fear of a U.S. Department of Justice lawsuit against the state. This is also the reason that the DADS is citing for refusing to release the report that detailed just how bad conditions at the Lubbock State School were that was released last December.
