80th Legislature: CPS Another Sleeping Giant?

By Vince Leibowitz  on May 9, 2007 in 80th Legislature

TYC, facilities for the mentally ill, and now CPS are hitting the headlines as problem agencies in state government:

More than 19,000 investigations into reported abuse or neglect of very young children were closed without the specialized scrutiny required by state law, a state senator from San Antonio said Tuesday, worrying the lapse could mean harm for the youngsters. The total is more than 76 percent of the 25,295 high-risk cases that should be reviewed by a child safety specialist under the law and Department of Family and Protective Services policy.

I’m sorry, but I thought we reformed Child Protective Services back in 2005. Guess that didn’t last long.

So, now what? Perhaps it’s time to replace the Perry appointees at the head of all this?
