State Rep. Jim Pitts has joined the fray to unseat House Speaker Tom Craddick. However, unlike Rep. Jim Keffer, who previously filed, there is a twist that could mean a speaker’s race before the end of the session:
Rep. Jim Pitts of Waxahachie filed his candidacy with the state Ethics Commission for a term to begin if Craddick is unseated, a spokesman for the commission said.
Oy. Jesus. Screw all of this. Neither Pitts nor Keffer is a “real” alternative to Craddick. And, a non-Craddick speakership would take some of the lightening out of the ‘08 Democratic movement to retake the House.
