This definately shows that the DNC is taking notice of Texas and one of the state’s rising stars, Sen. Leticia Van de Putte:
Texas state Sen. Leticia Van de Putte of San Antonio was nominated Monday to serve as one of three co-chairwomen for the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver.
Howard Dean, Democratic National Committee chairman, nominated House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., to serve as the chairwoman of the presidential nominating convention.
In addition to Van de Putte, Dean nominated Atlanta Mayor Shirley Frankling and Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius to serve as co-chairwoman.
“Our party is bringing a new kind of leadership to our country at all levels,’’ Dean said. “We are extremely fortunate to have such a distinguished group of strong Democratic leaders chairing our convention.
Van de Putte serves as the president of the National Conference of State Legislatures. She is the first Hispanic to serve in that role.
“Texas women, including Barbara Jordan and Ann Richards, have long served our party at national conventions and I’m humbled to be asked to join their ranks,’’ Van de Putte said.
The nominations must be approved by the Convention Rules Committee
