TX-SEN: Noriega Makes It Official

State Rep. Rick Noriega (D-Houston) made it official yesterday: he is exploring the race for U.S. Senate.
Charles has a post here rounding up all of the announcement-related coverage.
Here are a few choice quotes from the Chronicle article:
Noriega, who is not likely to match financial resources with Watts, said he will prevail because Texans want tested leadership. His exploratory committee is led by Houston businessman Paul Hobby, who was the Democratic nominee for state comptroller in 1998.
Asked what would stop him from running, Noriega said, “I don’t know at this point (apart from) a devastating personal experience.”
Noriega, a member of the Texas Army National Guard, is taking a leave of absence from his job as a manager for CenterPoint Energy.
Calling Cornyn a cheerleader for President Bush, Noriega said he would like the United States to follow the December recommendations of the Iraq Study Group on getting troops out of Iraq. “The war is the critical issue,” he said, adding in Spanish: “We have to stop the war.”
He also said he sees no merit in additional fences between Mexico and the United States, and he suggested that fencing authorized by Congress last year would never be built.
“It’s a bad idea to separate neighbors,” he said.
And, don’t forget to help Rick out. From our post yesterday:
Be one of the first 800 to change Texas forever. Donate any amount today!
Candidates should not be allowed to buy elections nor should special interests be allowed to buy the nomination $1,000 at a time. 800 donors sends a message that we are ready to crash the gate and take back our party.
You can tell the state and country you are ready for a change by donating any amount. We are joining forces to say that a dollar is as important as $1,000.
