Will Perry Use Iran-Tied Pension Investments As Vehicle To Special Session On Voter ID?
By Vince Leibowitz on Jul 19, 2007 in 80th Legislature
Governor Perry wants the state’s pension funds to divest any holdings in companies doing business with Iran following a visit with Israeli officials.
The problem with this? He could use it as an excuse to call a special session so he can add Voter ID issues to the call:
The Republican governor is talking with legislative leaders and looking at whether he could set divestment in motion without legislation, Wilson said. If not, he’s not ruling out a special legislative session.
I’ve said it time and time again, and I’ll say it once more: Rick Perry will use anything as an excuse to call a special session to be able to add Voter ID to the call. Whether the Iranian divestment is as urgent as the Sudan/Darfur Divestment (though California has passed a measure, as has Missouri) remains to be seen and is, in fact immaterial to the issue because Perry will do whatever he can to call a special session to which Voter ID can be tacked on to.

Since when did Bubba Perry get so down with Israel? Could it be that he’s mixed up with San Antonio’s Pastor Hagee and his cash cow Church of Let’s See Israel Burnt? That well-shorn flock is probably still writing checks to Tom DeLay.
