Davis’ Absence From List On Those Solicited On Speaker Power AG Opinion Even More Glaring In Light Of Full List Review

Earlier this week, we told you that a number of people had been “solicited” for briefs by the Attorney General’s Office in regard to the opinion request concerning the removal of House Speaker Tom Craddick. We specifically wondered if former Parliamentarian Denise Davis has been solicited.

It turns out she has not been. The complete list those solicited includes 29 parties (letter here, .pdf), including right-wing think tank the Texas Public Policy Foundation, who have been asked for opinions:

Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst
Sen. Mario Gallegos, Jr., President Pro Tempore
House Speaker Tom Craddick
Rep. Sylvester Turner, Speaker Pro Tempore
Rep. Warren Chisum, Appropriations Chairman
Rep. Frank Corte, House Republican Caucus Chairman
Rep. Jim Dunnam, House Democratic Caucus Chairman
Rep. Harold Dutton
Rep. Tony Goolsby, House Administration Chairman
Rep. Pat Haggerty
Rep. Will Hartnett
Rep. Fred Hill
Rep. Phil King
Rep. Jodie Laubenberg
Rep. Brian McCall
Rep. Rick Noriega
Rep. Jim Pitts
Rep. Patrick Rose
Rep. Todd Smith
Rep. Robert Talton
Rep. Senfronia Thompson
Terry Keel, Parliamentarian, Texas House of Representatives
Ron Wilson, former Assistant Parliamentarian, Texas House of Representatives
Mark Brown, Director, Legal Division, Texas Legislative Council
James Steinberg, Dean of LBJ School of Public Affairs, University of Texas-Austin
William McMinn, Chairman of the Board, Texas Public Policy Foundation
Tom “Smitty” Smith, Executive Director, Public Citizen
Suzy Woodford, Executive Director, Common Cause of Texas
Ken Anderson, Governor’s Appointment Director

Why the TPPF and Jodie Laubenberg and Ken Anderson are on this list is anyone’s guess. But, their presence and Ron Wilson’s makes Denise Davis’ absence all the more glaring.

However, as Quorum Report is now reporting, any interested parties may now submit briefs.
