Next Questions at the MSM-Blog Panel at YKC07

How is the MSM going to regain our trust?
Mike Allen - not one person gets paid to read their articles (Politico). Everyone who reads their stories has to want to click on them.
What is journalism today?
Jeff Carney says that the press is still adversarial today. Gives example of how he was on the plane with the President on 9-11 and he was dumped off on a tarmac with most of the rest of the press. He raised hell with Ari Fleischer - didn’t get anywhere, he stayed on the tarmac - but he did raise hell and was adversarial.
Jill Filipovic (feministe blog) - responsibility lies not just with reporters, but with editors.
When is the MSM going to stop publishing stories planted by the far right wing?
Why don’t journalists check facts? A blogger from Houston gives examples from Houston.
Sources - not reliable - why are you using them?
Mike Allen - realizes this happens. Says this is true about White House officials (Allen doesn’t really answer the questions). He’s pressed - why are these people even quoted anymore? He says if they are wrong “again and again and again” then yeah, they shouldn’t be quoted. (lame)
Glenn Greenwald - gives example of a young journalist going to a general on the ground to get the real story. Took guts to do that, but he wanted to find out what was really going on. Very different from the lack of access journalists have today (or they don’t seek it). Wasn’t the point made earlier that MSM journalists have greater access?
Jill Filipovic - it’s important to hear what the administration has to say, even when they are lying. Reporters have to report this because it was said.
