SD 9: Fort Worth City Councilwoman Wendy Davis Resigns, Announces She’ll Oppose Kim Brimer

Fort Worth City Councilwoman Wendy Davis resigned from her council seat last night and announced she will challenge State Sen. Kim Brimer for Senate District 9 in 2008. She’ll likely face Tarrant County Democratic Chair Art Brender in the Democratic Primary, though she’s already reportedly heavily favored in the district.

This, of course, comes days after the Lone Star Project released the results of a poll that showed Brimer to be relatively unknown in Tarrant County even though he’s been in office for about two decades.

This will be an interesting race, with or without a primary. Although Democratic Primaries are normally healthy things, in this case I think it might be a good idea for Brender and Davis to come to an agreement. She’s probably better known and has the advantage.

I hate to be picky Vince, but Davis in running for the seat in SD 10. It was her council seat that was in city district 9.
