Hillary Clinton Hits Houston

Hillary Clinton made a campaign stop in Houston Saturday that definitely garnered her some positive media attention and, of course, got the Houston crowd roaring.

According to the Houston Chronicle’s coverage, Clinton’s speech had quite a populist feel to it:

Saying “it will take a woman” to clean up problems in the White House, New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton on Saturday promised about 1,000 Houston-area voters that, with their support, she would work to change America.

“Bring your brooms,” the Democratic presidential candidate told the crowd at a downtown Houston union hall. “There’s a lot of work that needs to be done. Stay with me all the way to November. We’re going to make Texas blue again. If you’re ready for change, I’m ready to lead.”

Clinton shouted a series of questions to the lively crowd. “Are you ready for change?” she yelled.

“Yeeess!” they screamed.

“Are you ready to bring home the troops?”

“Yes! Yes! Yes!” they boomed.

Clinton, who said she has great affection for Texas, vowed that if President Bush doesn’t start bringing troops home, she will — on Inauguration Day. She said veterans — as well as single mothers, educators and police officers — are “invisible” to today’s administration.

Clinton vowed to implement a health insurance program for all Americans, develop an economy that is not dependent on “unstable regimes around the world” and create more jobs for the middle class.

“We’ve got to start acting like Americans again,” she said.

While I’m still committed to John Edwards, I’ve made no secret that Hillary Clinton remains my number two choice for 2008. She’s a great candidate, an excellent leader, and would make a wonderful president.

I was at both speeches but felt Hillary connected better to the people.
She seemded to have geared her speech for the people in attendance, ya know the forgotten and taken advantage of middle class Americans.
She was truly electric and the atmosphere was reminscent of the teen years when one saw their favorite singer. At the end she declared she wanted to shake hands and she did as well as sign autographs and just talk to the people. All this while surrounded by numerous secret service. I truly enjoyed listening to her.
On a personal note many thanks to Congresswoman Lee who spotted my young nephew in the crowd. Meeting him at several functions she took the initiatve to pull him out of the crowd so he could meet Hillary. He is confined to a wheelchair and Sheila always takes the time to come over and speak to him. He was thrilled.
Thanks to the Congresswoman for bringing Hillary to Houston and I hope this was not the last time.
I am thinking my vote may change when the time comes.
