What Is Up With Ron Paul?
By Vince Leibowitz on Aug 26, 2007 in 2008 Presidential Race
Since Ron Paul is the only presidential candidate from Texas (not counting Veep hopefuls Kay Bailey Hutchison, Kay Granger, and Rick Perry), his campaign is of some interest to Texas bloggers. Why? Because we know Ron Paul’s bizarre record and can’t possibly understand how it could appeal to so many (or so few, to be more precise, but you get the idea…) people around the nation:
In a New Hampshire meadow on a recent weekend, Ron Paul is without a doubt the main draw at a Republican presidential straw poll that attracts several long shot candidates.
Of course, Paul has left his congressional district AWOR–absent without representation–so he can gallivant through New Hampshire meadows courting voters who think the Gold Standard is the best thing since butter on toast. That aside, I don’t quite understand how anyone–Republicans or Democrats–could think he is a reasonable enough person to become president. A lot of his ideas, to be kind, are bat-shit crazy.
I doubt Paul will make it to the first real presidential primary. He’s bound to finally run out of money sooner or later, since there aren’t too many Washington lobbyists writing checks to get us back on the Gold Standard.

So… what is your point? People are tired of government as usual.
He wants to cut government spending and in the process cut taxes. He’s against the government owning our property and leasing it back to us or worse just taking it for whatever use they see fit. He wants to enforce our immigration laws, he’s against amnesty for illegal immigrants. He’s against foreign interests controlling more and more of our country. He’s against special interests in Washington buying our representatives. Yeah, you’re right, no lobbyists are lining up to back him because they are afraid their “special interest pork feeds” will go away. If we end up with any of the “main stream” candidates in office it will be four more years of the same thing. The same old ideas with big government dipping into our pockets and getting into our business.
BTW, if Ron Paul has left his congressional district “AWOR–absent without representation–so he can gallivant through New Hampshire meadows courting voters” What, exactly, are Hillary, Obama and the rest of them doing out campaigning and taking their vacations. Or are they able to be in two places at one time.
