RVAA Causes More Confusion For Texas Public Schools

The Dallas Morning News this morning points out that, yet again, Texas school districts are mired in more controversy over the legislature’s attempts to integrate religion into public schools, which continues to deflect their attention from their real jobs: educating Texas’ children:
The Schoolchildren’s Religious Liberties Act was meant to clarify how Texas schoolchildren can publicly convey their religious stances on campus and at school events.
Instead, it has created statewide confusion over how districts should comply with the law and added a new layer of divisiveness to an issue already well known for passionate discord – religion in schools.
One state legislator, Vicki Trutt (R-Keller), has even been forced to apologize to some of her school leader constituents for the huge screw-up she supported:
State Rep. Vicki Truitt, R-Keller, apologized to the Carroll school board Monday, saying lawmakers did not intend to create problems with the law.
“We thought it was a good idea to give the students the freedom of religion,” she said Monday in a brief interview. “In the Legislature, oftentimes we don’t get it right the first time.”
