TX SEN: Mikal Watts Doesn’t Want You To Read Blogs

By Vince Leibowitz  on Sep 14, 2007 in 2008 Texas Elections

After all the flak Rick Noriega has taken for his misguided comment about blogs, it’s worth nothing that the best thing his opponent can say about blogs is not to read them. Watts’ campaign website proudly displays a story from Capitol Inside in which the want-to-be senator hands the Texas blogosphere a big fat dissing:

Watts used the UT appearance and the adversarial questions as an opportunity to bemoan the use of divisive wedge issues that he blamed on Cornyn and the Republicans. Watts said that he’d told his wife to not to watch television or read what the bloggers are saying about the campaign. “I can take those blows,” Watts said. “But I’ll fight back.”

It’s interesting that Watts would mention bloggers, of course. His campaign shrews have already planted stories in the press to attempt to separate his opponent, Rick Noriega, from his base of netroots support. And, the mainstream media–not the blogs–were actually responsible for throwing Watts in hot grease over his letter about how much influence his money had bought on an appellate court. Yet, he didn’t tell his wife not to read the newspapers.

As for how Watts is “fighting back,” check back at 10 a.m. for our post on that.
