League Of Conservation Voters Rates Legislators On Environmental Issues

The Texas League of Conservation Voters yesterday released its report card on environmental records of members of the 80th Texas Legislature.

TLCV reviewed 27 votes to come up with their scorecard.

As expected, Democrats led members of the House in terms of the most progressive environmental voting records. The average score for House members was 56 percent (a “C”); the average Republican score was 32 percent (an “F”) and the average Democratic score was 84 percent (an “A”).

Kirk England, the state rep who last week switched parties from the Republicans to the Democrats, had, at the time, the highest ranking of any Republican in the House (69 percent). Joe Pickett had the lowest score with 37 percent. Eleven legislators scored a perfect “100.”

This scorecard is much more in-depth than the earlier one released by Environment Texas, which only examined a handful of votes. TLCV examined everything from dirty coal bills and amendments to clean energy, corporate welfare and water conservation.
