LSG To Hold Hearings On Nursing Home, In-Home Care

Garnet Coleman, Chair of the The Legislative Study Group, a non-partisan House caucus that works on sound public policy for Texas families, is holding a hearing this week on the effect of the state budget on nursing home and in-home care in Texas.

Rep. Coleman has authorized the formation of the Committee on Quality Nursing Home and In-Home Care out of concern that low Medicaid reimbursement rates are preventing elderly Texans from receiving adequate care from nursing homes and home health agencies.

He noted:

As we begin our formal study of the issue, we have planned the first in a series of town hall hearings that will be held statewide to take place this Wednesday, October 24, 6 - 8:30 p.m. in the Houston City Hall Annex Council Chambers at 900 Bagby behind City Hall ( click here for a map). We must do all we can to guarantee clients, families and community members that these circumstances are promptly addressed. Representatives Ellen Cohen, Hubert Vo, Jessica Farrar and Borris Miles will serve on the committee, with Representative Cohen and Representative Vo serving as Co-Vice Chairs.
