Mum Is The Word On Voter Registration System Audit

The Galveston County Daily News has a particularly interesting story discussing the audit of the ‘new’ statewide voter registration system which caused a lot of havoc before the May elections.
Although the audit, which was due out last month but was delayed, is complete, nobody wants to talk about what it is in it:
Although an audit wasn’t completed in October as expected, the state’s beleaguered voter registration system is performing far better than it did months ago but still has some bugs to be worked out, county officials said.
State Auditor John Keel said the audit was delayed by the loss of a project manager and other unforeseen circumstances. The report is complete but won’t be released publicly until Secretary of State Phil Wilson, who oversees elections, has had a chance to review it.
“Our office has seen the draft report but we’re not in a position to where we comment on it until a final report is released,” Wilson spokesman Scott Haywood said Friday.
Keel declined to say whether the report contains an estimate of how much money voter registration problems have cost state and local governments.
Under the Texas Public Information Act, such audits are, in fact, not public records until they are finally approved. However, one would think, if the audit was a fully glowing report, someone would say so. I can’t wait to see what horrors are lurking in that audit.
