SD 21: Bruni Switches Parties To Face Zaffirini In General Election

We told you about what would likely be the hapless candidacy of former Webb County Judge Louis H. Bruni against Senator Judith Zaffirini earlier this year. Now we learn that Bruni has actually switched parties to make his run:

Former Webb County Judge Louis H. Bruni on Thursday filed as a Republican for the Texas Senate, formally challenging incumbent Sen. Judith Zaffirini, a Democrat. The filing assures the seat for the 21st Senatorial District will not be decided until the November general election.

And check this out from Bruni:

“District 21 is predominantly Republican and the Republican Party has asked me to run,” he said. “I’m affiliated with the Republican Party since 1994, that’s no secret. It’s kind of simple. In black and white this looks like a tremendous turn, but you don’t change opinions overnight.

SD 21 as about as Republican as Travis County, so I have no idea where Bruni gets this idea.
