TX CD 14: Two Vying For Ron Paul’s Seat, Plus Ron Paul
By Vince Leibowitz on Jan 5, 2008 in 2008 Presidential Race, 2008 Texas Elections
In addition to being an also-ran presidential candidate, Ron Paul (R-Surfside) is also running to retain his Congressional seat here in Texas. And, as the Galveston County Daily News noted some days ago (sorry, we’re still playing holiday catch-up), here is a little more on his opponents, including that there is no way in Hell that they can match Paul’s potential warchest.
Friendswood City Councilman Chris Peden filed with the Republican Party on Friday to make his candidacy official, and immigration attorney Eugene Flynn has filed with the Libertarian party.
Paul has $80,000 in his congressional war chest, but that doesn’t count the millions he has raised for his presidential campaign. If he drops out of that race, the money could be used for his congressional campaign.
Peden has just $363 in cash on hand, according to the most recent campaign finance reports, which include finances through September.
Flynn, who has clashed with Paul on immigration policies, filed to run against him in 2006, but the Libertarian Party voted to have no nominee run against Paul in the general election.
It’s very likely–whether Paul drops out of the Presidential race by the time the Texas primary rolls around or not, he’ll funnel a million or so of that campaign cash into his Congressional account.
I wonder how all of those GOP activists feel about their real role as donors: lining the coffers of Paul’s congressional campaign account.

What a worthless POS you are.
“It is very likely whether Paul drops out of the Presidential race by the time the Texas primary rolls around or not, he will funnel a million or so of that campaign cash into his Congressional account.” You have no basis for making this statement, but hey it is the internet, you can throw around Innuendos and accusations like they are confetti. Maybe on in 100 will stick, and we will look oh so smart, and nobody will even remember the other 99, it is the internet.
Of all the Republican Congressman to throw muck at, I would think Dr. Paul would be the last on your list (maybe he is, this being the only time I have or will read you, you might have gone through all the rest). Dr. Paul is probably one of the few Republican Congressman that would not dismiss someone, just because they are and “evil Democrat”. Either one day you Democrats / Republicans are going to have to learn that just because someone is a Republican / Democrat, does not mean they are the very manifestation of evil on earth. You will either learn it, or you are going to run this country into the ground, and take the rest of us with it.
“I wonder how all of those GOP activists feel about their real role as donors: lining the coffers of Paul’s congressional campaign account.”
Well I am one of those donors (to the legal maximum), and I am just fine with whatever Dr. Paul decides is the best use of my donation. It happens to be my opinion that Dr. Paul has more honor and integrity than all the other politicians and political pundits I have had any contact with, combined.
