TX SEN: Once Again, The Republican Party Gets It Wrong On Rick Noriega
By Vince Leibowitz on Jan 15, 2008 in 2008 Texas Elections
The Republican Party of Texas is evidently pretty frightened of Rick Noriega. Otherwise, I can’t see much purpose in sending out the “Rick Noriega’s Week In Review” email the party sent out this morning.
And, once again, the Republican Party shows the great lengths to which they will go to distort the truth and trash the Texas Netroots:
Rick Noriega hit the campaign trail last week in an effort to breathe new life into his listing campaign.
New life? Listing? They must be thinking of Rudy Giuliani, because Rick Noriega’s campaign hasn’t been “listing.”
Times are tough at “Camp Noriega,” as Noriega learns that being the Burnt Orange Report’s ‘chosen one’ ain’t all it’s cracked up to be. The passion and fervor of the netroots community hasn’t translated into fundraising success (according to his press release, Noriega’s fourth quarter 2007 contributions were a shocking 40% lower than the third quarter 2007), and the stress has lead to staff turnover and other miscues.
I guess Hans Klinger just wanted to take a special hit at Burnt Orange Report, because Noriega is, of course, a people-powered, Netroots driven candidate.
As for lower contributions, that’s such a bogus argument. Every candidate–aside from the presidential slate–experienced a similar third-to-fourth-quarter drop, because people have less to give. Higher-level givers are preparing for end-year tax implications, middle-class and lower-income givers are buying their kids holiday gifts, and many charities are soliciting this time of year. So, everyone has the same difficult hurdles to overcome. What a bogus argument.
As for the “staff turnovers and other miscues,” I’m not sure what those other “miscues” are, but the only “turnover” I am aware of has nothing to do with staff, but simply the firming up of relationships with various consultants and media folks. As for actual staff turnover, many of the people the RPT may be thinking of may have been interns who went on to other things (like graduation) and were replaced with paid communication staff.
Stil more:
In desperate need of money and positive press, Noriega hoped that an action packed week on the campaign trail would right the ship. Unfortunately for him, the opposite turned out to be true. Below are some of the highlights, or should we say lowlights, of the abysmal week that was…let’s hope they have life jackets!
Again, this is just bogus red-meat for the GOP masses, but it shows the RPT is scared of Rick Noriega.
