Texas AFL-CIO Liveblogging: Rick Noriega’s Address

I just listened to some talk, and we’ve been listening to some talk for some time. It’s easy to talk from the cheap seats when you haven’t been in the trenches for a long time fighting for Texas families.
Talks about fighting against the Tom DeLay engineered redistricting scheme.
I can summarize why I am running for U.S. Senate in three words, “I’ve had enough.” I’ve had enough of insurance companies making record profits while Americans lacked health care and Mr. Cornyn siding with those insurance companies. If you work hard and play by the rules you shouldn’t have to worry if you can afford to get sick. I’ll fight for healthcare reform that puts our families first and not insurance profits. I’ve had enough of our leadership hanging our fighting men and women out to dry.
I’ve had enough of Mr. Cornyn letting the president get away with it, and leaving our troops without body armor from Iraq to Afghanisatan.
It is time we had a senator who will demand our nation have a plan to bring our troops home from Iraq and care for them when they do it. I’ll fight to see that the VA is fully funded and no veteran is left behind.
For every Texan who has heard the call to service, I’ll make our soldiers and veterans the priority that they should be. I know that each and everyone of you know that I have had enough of skyrocketing college tuition. In the Texas Legislature, I took to the front mic and spoke out against tuition deregulations.
It was a tax on the aspirations of millions of middle class Texans. It is time we had a senator who will make college education more affordable….I’ll keep fighting to make it affordable for Texas families.
I’ve had enough of our country not having an energy policy. It is time we had a senator who will work to end our dependence on foreign oil. I’ll fight for renewable energy…and create new green jobs here in Texas.
I’ve had enough of the federal government making it harder for workers to organize. Cornyn was wrong to vote against the Employee Free Choice Act. Its time we had a senator who recognizes that you cannot have a strong America unless you have a strong labor force.
Once you’ve been on the front lines in Afghanistan or on the border, or in the Texas Legislature, a few cheap shots from this dais aren’t much. I won’t let anyone tell Texans and Democrats that we aren’t prepared to protect Texans and America. I won’t let anyone tell Texans that Democrats aren’t serious about immigration reform.
While we are offering change, they are selling cynicism…. After five years of Cornyn, voters have had enough. Have you had enough? Have you had enough? Have you had enough? Our future is too critical, our future is too great. This weekend is the new beginning of our state, our nation, and I ask you humbly for your support.
STANDING OVATION. McMurrey only got polite applause.

Vince, you’re conveniently forgetting a crucial detail - RICK NORIEGA DIDN’T EVEN BOTHER TO SHOW UP AT THE AFL-CIO EVENT. He had a friend of his deliver that address for him. Yet you still call this post “Rick Noriega’s Address.” What you also failed to mention is that Ray McMurrey was on hand to answer questions after his address, and gave a particularly good answer to a question regarding his top environmental priorities. The Noriega representative answered no questions, per the rules of the forum.
My mistake, I thought you were referring to the AFL-CIO event on Wednesday, not the one today, which Rick Noriega did most certainly attend. My apologies, please forgive the accusatory tone of this post.
Jeff,
If you’ll notice in the post, it says, “liveblogging.” In blogging terminology, that means you are watching it and blogging it as it happens, meaning it happened on the date of the post. In this case, Sat. 19, 2008.
