As Predicted, Ron Paul Shifts Focus From Presidential Run To Congressional Run
By Vince Leibowitz on Feb 11, 2008 in 2008 Presidential Race, 2008 Texas Elections
It certainly comes as no surprise to us here at Capitol Annex that Congressman Ron Paul (R-Surfside) is essentially abandoning his presidential bid (although he beats around the bush about it) to focus on–what else–his re-election campaign for Congress.
Of course, we here at Capitol Annex have said that this is what Paul would do all along. In spite of the millions he’s raised and the so-called “Ron Paul Revolution,” (which has to date been about as exciting as a used tea bag), we always knew he’d abandon his presidential run and focus on his congressional seat. In fact, we were saying that exactly 11 months ago:
Ron Paul has about as much of chance being elected President of the United States (or, even winning a straw poll in Texas) as a troup of acrobatic sewer rats.
That said, with Paul running for the Presidency, it means that his Congressional seat might be up for grabs.
I say “might,” of course, because no one actually expects Paul to “go the distance” with his presidential run. I am sure he’ll flounder out somewhere along Mid-November and simply run for his old seat in Congress again.
Although we missed our target date by three months, we still called this one right on the nose. In spite of his rhetoric and complaining about not being taken as a serious candidate by debate organizers, etc., Ron Paul never intended to be a serious candidate for President. Whether his abandonment of his Congressional district (which he hasn’t served all that well, anyway) will put him in trouble in his three-way GOP Primary is anyone’s guess, but we know Paul will certainly have however much money he needs to trample his opponents.

You’re insane.
Ron Paul has never ‘abandoned’ his congressional seat…he’s been there for most important votes (unlike McCain - but then maybe we’re better off for that) and the revolution inside the GOP is here to stay. He has been racking up double digits and won two states. He has brought more people to the party than any other candidate, and he’s also affected things locally because people now understand this is where they can make an impact.
Ron Paul has done more for politics than Mother Theresa has for charity. We want him to go the distance. After all, old jowls’s head might explode leaving us with no one. (We can only hope) and RP will be there to step right in.
