[This is the first in an ongoing series of endorsements leading up to the March 4 Primary Elections.]
It is a difficult task, picking a person to cast a ballot for in the race for President. That task is made especially difficult for us since our first choice, John Edwards, has suspended his campaign and left the race.
We have toiled no small amount over which candidate we believe has earned our support. Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY) and Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) both have much to offer our party, our state, and our nation. In making our endorsement back in September, we noted:
As Texas Democrats who still believe strongly in the dream of Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society, we at Capitol Annex believe that John Edwards is best suited–and has the best vision and plan–to roll-back the eight years of destruction that has been done to the policies of the New Deal and the Great Society by the Bush administration.
Since Senator Edwards left the race, we’ve been on the search for the candidate we believe is best for Texas, and our nation. We’ve carefully examined both candidates, and find much to like about each. We also find some things lacking–such as the fact that neither candidate has truly picked up Edwards’ banner to bring forward the great social reforms we need for the 21st Century–such as a new ‘War on Poverty,’ and his “Smart Trade” policy.
In the end, our choice came down not to which candidate we believed had all the things we’d like to see in his or her platform (because neither does), but rather, which candidate we believe–once in office–will have the tenacity and determination to enact the progressive reforms this nation so greatly needs.
In making its endorsement for president in earlier this year, the Editorial Board of the Des Moines Register noted:
Beyond their personal appeal, the candidates have outlined ambitious policy proposals on health care, education and rural policy. Yet these proposals do little to help separate the field. Their plans are similar, reflecting a growing consensus in the party about how to approach priority issues.
The choice, then, comes down to preparedness: Who is best prepared to confront the enormous challenges the nation faces — from ending the Iraq war to shoring up America’s middle class to confronting global climate change?
The job requires a president who not only understands the changes needed to move the country forward but also possesses the discipline and skill to navigate the reality of the resistant Washington power structure to get things done.
For us, as it was for the Register, that candidate is New York Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Senator Clinton possesses the qualities we need most in a President right now. Senator Clinton has resolve and tenacity absent any other candidate in the field–Republican or Democratic. She will bring prosperity at home and peace and respect abroad.
It has been said, particularly by talking-head conservative pundits, that Senator Clinton is too polarizing, and that a Clinton presidency would propel Congressional control into the hands of the Republicans for the next half-decade. We don’t believe that. There will be no redux of the “Republican Revolution” as a result of a Hillary Clinton presidency. Americans have already seen the Hell that a Republican Congress (and Republican President) have put our nation through and we dare say that will be a road not taken in the coming decade.
We believe in Senator Clinton. And, we believe that Senator Clinton can bring our nation upward to great things.

Obama’s Dirty Tricks?
Dear Sisters and Brothers for Hillary,
Let me call to Hillary’s attention to what is being said about her and Bill and Chelsea on one very nasty pro-Obama website I came across, http://www.matrix-evolutions.com. They are actually connecting up Bill’s Monica tryst with parental sexual abuse on Chelsea if you can believe it! Whether it is better not paid attention to or countered, I don’t know, but somebody who does know what the right response is should be made aware of this. The beginning of this website, which focuses on the election reads:
We derive our politics from an evolutionary perspective, not from conservative ideology. A mathematical analysis and observation of events in the news indicate that the so-called war on terror is slowly but surely expanding to World War III. For that reason we support Barack Obama as the only real anti-war candidate who can stop it.
Hillary Clinton is not a genuine anti-war candidate. She is your typical self-interested politician who will say whatever she has to to get elected. Recall Hillary and President Clinton when they were in the White House. While they played to the people by promising health care, they never delivered on it. What they did deliver was more police on the streets and the building of tons more prisons. This quite pleased the conservatives and took America to the highest per-capita prison population in the world, a statistic historically associated with police states like Stalinist Russia and apartheid South Africa. Of course, America’s not a police state. If it were you’d have heard about it on the evening news.
The Clinton presidency also ended social protection for poor people, again quite pleasing the conservatives. LBJ started America’s war on poverty. The Clinton’s ended it, bringing about the hoards of homeless beggars you see on the streets of America today. Don’t laugh. It could be you and your family. Wait until the recession caused by the war gets into high gear.
Hillary does have a few things she can be proud of. She is a most talented actress and a profoundly adept social climber, our American Evita. But whatever her personal accomplishments, she is not going to go against the wishes of the money class that created and supported her and Bill through the years. She is not going to stop this war whatever she may say to get elected.
Some people think that Hillary would never lie to us. But Bill also insisted he would never lie to us and is such an amazingly good actor that we still believe him even after he was caught with the cigar in his hand! What character is there in this family when the head of the most powerful nation on earth amuses himself in the Oval Office by sticking a penile object, not even his own thing, up some college kid’s vagina?
And does anybody think that Hillary felt personally bad about Monica? Hillary is lesbian, a married one, which is not that unusual in modern America. If Hillary was mad about anything with Monica, it was that she didn’t get a shot at her with the cigar too. Watch one of Hillary’s lovers surface soon to clarify her tastes in this area.
The smiling Clintons are so phony and so slimy underneath that one would not be shocked to find that the unconfident, mildly retarded, Chelsea Clinton came about from her perverted parents abusing her when she was four years old. Certainly there is as much truth in this outrageous conjecture as in the equally outrageous conjecture that the Clintons are good people because they go to church every Sunday. Which is to say, in emphatic terms, that one should trust what a Clinton says no more than what a Bush says. If you want the war to end, support Barack Obama.
I hope this information helps.
Onward to victory,
Martha Turner
