TX CD 14: District Newspapers Endorse Paul’s Challenger
For those who have been following Ron Paul’s campaign for Congress in CD 14 (now that the “Ron Paul Revolution” has ended with a nasty thud), it may be interesting to note that the papers in that district have decided it is time for a change and that it is time for Paul to be ousted. Two papers have endorsed challenger, Chris Peden.
From a Peden campaign press release:
In a stunning rebuke to a 10-term congressman, both the Victoria Advocate and the Galveston Daily News threw their support behind the challenger joining a growing chorus of voices in the district clamoring for a more effective U.S. Representative.
Earlier in the week, the Victoria Advocate said, “In spite of Paul’s high rating on constituent services, many, including us, question how effective Paul has been in representing the interests of this region. Chris Peden offers the Republicans a fresh voice aligned better with party principles and those of the 14th District. We recommend him. “
And today, the Galveston Daily News said, “His [Dr. Paul's] voting is scrupulously in line with smaller government. His views are consistent with those of the Libertarian Party. He was once that party’s presidential candidate. We can say without reservation that he is courageous and principled; we can’t say he is an effective representative of the district. Grassroots leaders should have an effective ally in their congressional representative. Peden is the better choice.”
“It’s evident”, said Peden, “that the winds of change are blowing through the Fourteenth Congressional District. This is a clear indication that the incumbent does not share the values and priorities of this district and is no longer effective.”
Peden Political Director Onzelo Markum said that “since 1997 Ron Paul has sponsored 350 bills and none of them have made it into law”. “Combine that”, he continued, “with the fact that Ron Paul does not support fighting the Global War on Terror and does not support federal funding for NASA makes him ineffective and at odds with the values of the voters of the district”. “Recently Paul has said that being in congress was his “Plan B”, Markum added. “The surge in early voting in every county in this district, some counties are up more than 200%, suggests that the voters want a “Plan A” congressman; and that’s Chris Peden.
Personally, since there is no “D,” neither Republican is one I’d vote for, but it is hilarious to see Ron Paul getting what he so richly deserves from the newspapers in that district for going to Congress and accomplishing nothing.
