There have been some interesting developments lately in the House District 27 race between State Rep. Dora Olivo (D-Stafford) and challenger Ron Reynolds.
It appears that several sources of right-wing cash are being funneled into Olivo’s campaign.
According to her 8-day report, Olivo has received money from GOP lobbyist Bill Messer, former Craddick D Vilma Luna, current Craddick D Norma Chavez, and the Texas Right To Life PAC, which is itself flush from an infusion of $75,000 from James Leininger and Bob Perry.
In addition, Olivo received $2,500 from the controversial Texas JOBS PAC, which has been a conduit for more than a quarter million dollars of Tom Craddick’s money. The PAC has already made contributions to Craddick D’s Kino Flores and Kevin Bailey, and is cutting minor checks to Corbin Van Arsdale, Betty Brown, Bill Zedler, Chente Quintanilla, Doc Anderson, Cynthia Dunbar, Frank Corte, Jerry Madden, Mark Shelton (HD 97), Nathan Macias, Phil King, John Davis, and Thomas Latham.
The strange thing? Olivo isn’t a supporter of Craddick (neither, for that matter, is Qunitanilla).
So, what is the deal? Is Craddick trying to buy her love (and her vote), knowing that he is in serious danger this primary season and that Olivo’s opponent has a bit of baggage? We hope not.
