East Texas Key To Presidential Primary

By Vince Leibowitz  on Mar 3, 2008 in 2008 Presidential Race

Nobody seemed to notice when we said, some weeks ago, that East Texas would be key to actually winning the presidential primary in Texas for the prevailing Democrat. Well, polling data and what-not has evidently made the world realize that places like Marshall, Tyler, Longview, Jacksonville, Karnack, Wills Point, and Gilmer will hold the key to who wins Texas:

And in the one-time bastion of the Texas Democratic Party — East Texas — the race is swinging back and forth.

[...]

The region that might be a swing factor in the Democratic race is East Texas. Obama had an 11-point lead in East Texas in the first poll, but Clinton has now pulled ahead by 7 percentage points. Clinton’s husband, former President Bill Clinton, has campaigned in the region for her, and actor Samuel L. Jackson toured the area for Obama.

Personally, I’m going to sit back and say, “I told you so,” when, at 2 a.m. early Wednesday morning, someone in a presidential campaign somewhere is waiting on precincts in Tyler and Marshall to come in to determine whether there is a clear winner in Texas or whether or not it will be “a draw.”
