Perry Will Seek Third Term As Governor
If you heard the faint remnants of a blood-curdling scream about an hour ago, it was probably the collective fright of the GOP establishment upon hearing that Rick Perry had formally announced that he will seek re-election as governor in 2010.
Kay Bailey Hutchison continued to play coy, saying it was “too early to announce,” although she continues to privately assure her supporters she’ll run in 2010 in a field that will likely include Perry, Dewhurst, and half a dozen other GOP candidates:
When asked whether the gubernatorial field would include Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst and himself, Mr. Perry responded , “I don’t know about them, but it will be Perry in 2010.”
“I don’t know about the other two. You need to ask them.”
Of course, a brutal GOP primary will likely not favor Hutchison, since the Christian Right will likely hammer away at her. Of course, given Perry’s vaccination executive order
from 2007, the Christian Right may be hammering them both.
That’s good news for Democrats, though, since the winner of the blood-drawing GOP primary will be beaten and broken.
With Lt. Governor David Dewhurst raising his name ID through his stupid TV commercials lately, it’s pretty clear he’s going to go for a run at something. While most people speculate that to be Governor, everyone knows what he really wants is a Senate seat.
