Now Is Not The Time For Hillary To Give In
I found quite interest this article from the Associated Press:
Apart from George McGovern, a plainspoken man who knows something about losing elections, not a single Democrat of national stature publicly urged Hillary Rodham Clinton on Wednesday to end her campaign for the White House.
They didn’t have to.
There was no shortage of other ways to signal, suggest, insinuate or instigate the same thing. And certainly no need to apply unseemly pressure to a historic political figure, a woman who has run a grueling race, won millions of votes and drawn uncounted numbers of new Democratic voters to the polls.
Instead, many Democrats preferred to say softly what the party’s 1972 presidential nominee said for all to hear. Barack Obama has won the nomination “by any practical test,” McGovern said.
“By any practical test?” Really? When last I checked, neither Clinton nor Obama had enough delegates to secure the nomination. While Obama may be ahead in delegates, not all contests are decided. And, among those contests that are “decided,” Texas’ delegate count will not be finalized until June.
With all due respect to McGovern, now is not the time for Hillary Clinton to give up–or give in.
The fact remains that an overwhelming number of Democrats believe that she, not Barack Obama, is the person best suited to hold our party’s nomination and, indeed, lead this nation.
Hillary Clinton must not give up or give in because too many Democrats are counting on her to see this fight through to the end–and that means seeing the fight through to the convention where she will, against the odds and against the opinions of the pundits, be victorious.
A call for “change” absent the experience and tenacity to actually make that change a reality is merely a word on a rally card.
Clinton possesses both the experience and tenacity to make whatever change America needs a reality. Hillary Clinton is battle-tested. She is ready to lead.
Clinton must see this fight through because it is the right thing to do. It is right for our party, for our country and, indeed, for Clinton’s supporters. Those who have stuck by Senator Clinton through thick and thin deserve, as do our country and our party, every opportunity to fulfill the promises of her campaign.
On March 4, following victories in Texas and Ohio, Senator Clinton said:
Americans don’t need more promises. They’ve heard plenty of speeches. They deserve solutions and they deserve them now.
Indeed we do. We deserve solutions that are more than promises. Hillary Clinton is that solution.
