Cornyn Raising Cash For Others’ Senate Bids

Leave it to John Cornyn to go AWOL on his own senate bid to…yep, you guessed it: raise money for other people in a desperate attempt to climb the leadership ladder in the United States Senate:

Texas Sen. John Cornyn is test driving a possible role as head of the Republicans’ Senate campaign committee next year.

The Texas Republican is hosting two fundraisers today to raise campaign donations for GOP Senate candidates in Louisiana, New Mexico and Colorado.

The get-togethers in Houston and Dallas are expected to raise $300,000 for the Republican Senate prospects, all of whom face challenging races this fall.

Of course, this is part of Cornyn’s plan, since he wants to take over the National Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee next year–if he defeats State Rep. Rick Noriega (D-Houston) in November. Who will the funds benefit?

The money raised at today’s fund raisers will go to the Louisiana Republican taking on Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., and two Republicans fighting to win open Senate seats in Colorado and New Mexico. Cornyn’s efforts will help Louisiana state Treasurer John Kennedy in his bid to beat Landrieu, as well as former Rep. Bob Schaffer in Colorado and Rep. Steve Pearce in New Mexico.

John Kennedy, of course, is Louisiana’s party-flopping, overly-ambitious political whore of a State Treasurer who only decided to join the GOP in 2007. Schaffer is such a jackass he can’t even recognize which mountain range in his home state is which, and, of course, was knee-deep in the Abramoff affair and all of that lovely Mariana Island controversy.

As far as I’m concerned, if these are the kind of people Cornyn is going to raise money for, let him. It only makes him look worse than he already does.
