Another Poll Shows Doherty Within Single Digits Of McCaul

A new poll conducted down in Congressional District 10 has challenger Larry Joe Doherty (D-Brenham) within single digits of beating incumbent Congressman Mike McCaul (R-Austin), giving McCaul a measly 5.4 percent lead in the district.

The poll, by Goodwin Simon Victoria Research, also found that in a generic “trial heat” a Democrat got 41 percent and a Republican got only 45 percent in the district.

Interestingly enough, according to the poll, 47 percent of those polled don’t even know McCaul is their Congressman. That, of course, should come as no surprise since McCaul hasn’t really done much during his time in Congress.

Also, 70 percent of those polled viewed President Bush negatively, and 69 percent of those polled believe the country is “off track” after years of failed GOP leadership.

In a memo to the Doherty campaign, GSVR’s Donna Victoria noted:

“Voters are moving to the center and are more receptive to Democratic solutions to the nation’s problems at the same time that McCaul has aligned himself solidly with a failed President. Furthermore, the data shows that many of the tired, traditional attacks on a Democratic candidate will work no better in this district than they did in Mississippi or Louisiana.”

Good stuff.
