TexBlog PAC Endorses Chris Turner In House District 96

The TexBlog PAC formally endorsed Democrat Chris Turner for State Representative today. Turner is running in House District 96, in southern Tarrant County, against Republican incumbent Bill Zedler.

“Chris Turner is a hard-working, committed candidate who knows what it takes to win and is more than prepared to represent the communities of House District 96,” Phillip Martin, TexBlog PAC Board Member and Senior Adviser for Burnt Orange Report, said. “Grassroots Democrats – both online and on the ground – are thrilled to have an honest, dedicated candidate like Turner running in Tarrant County, and we pledge everything in our power to help get him elected.”

Before launching his campaign, Chris Turner worked as District Director for Texas Congressman Chet Edwards (D – Waco). During his time with Congressman Edwards, Turner gained experience working across party lines to meet the needs of Texans from all walks of life. His commitment to giving back to the community was a leading factor in the group’s decision to endorse.

“I am thrilled and honored to receive the endorsement of the TexBlog PAC,” Turner said. “TexBlog PAC and its members are committed to bringing much-needed change to our state government in Austin and share our campaign’s goal of ending the blind partisanship of the last several years.  Working together, I know we can make a real difference in the lives of Texas families by improving our schools, restoring the Children’s Health Insurance Program and taking on the big utility and insurance companies.”

Turner is running against far-right Republican incumbent Bill Zedler. Zedler narrowly avoided a loss in 2006, only managing 52.5% of the vote. Over the last two years, HD 96 has become more and more Democratic, highlighted by Democrats turning out in the March primary at a rate almost 2.5 times higher than Republicans – a larger ratio than the statewide average.

TexBlog PAC’s endorsement comes with a $5,000 contribution, as well as continued outreach in the ever-growing online communities. Chris Turner is the second endorsement TexBlog PAC has made this cycle. In May, the group endorsed Round Rock Democrat Diana Maldonado. TexBlog PAC will make a third endorsement at their Houston fundraiser this Thursday, June 26, 2008.
