Texas Republicans Are Funding McCain
Remember, earlier this year, when we had all hoped that wealthy Texas Republicans would get pissed off about John McCain not being “conservative enough” and just sit on their wallets this election cycle?
Evidently, that isn’t happening (or, at least McCain is getting some Texas cash). Via Bennett Roth over at The Chron’s Texans on the Potomac, we have this:
John McCain, who has been slow to stir Lone Star donors, picked up his fund-raising a tad in May, raising $799,085 in Texas, about $51,000 more than he had the month before, according to the latest Federal Election Commission monthly reports.
[...]
McCain’s fundraising in Texas in May exceeded all but two states; Florida, where he received $1 million and California, where he took in $881,362.
I guess it is some consolation that we are number three on the list and not number one. I have no idea what Bush’s quarterly numbers from Texas were, but I do suspect they were higher than this. Maybe his “Texas Rangers” will keep their checkbooks firmly in their holsters and just not bother this year…or maybe…not.
