TX HD 129: Craddick Reportedly Bringing Karl Rove To Fundraise For John Davis

By Vince Leibowitz  on Jul 25, 2008 in 2008 Texas Elections

UPDATE: The date of the fundraiser is August 12, 2008. We’ve learned that the fundraiser is a joint event for John Davis, Gary Elkins, Jim Murphy, and Ken Legler. “Patron” level sponsorships are a cool $5,000, which just happens to be the same amount TexBlog PAC contributed to Sherrie Matula’s campaign.

Clearly, a man who ought to be put in jail for his refusal to testify in front of Congress doesn’t reflect the values of the folks in HD 129, where Sherrie Matula faces John Davis, or in HD 133, where Kristi Thibaut challenges Jim Murphy, or in HD 144, where Democrat Joel Redmond faces Ken Legler for Talton’s open seat.

For grins, you can view two pieces of the invitation here and here–neither of which, we might add, includes a paid political advertising disclaimer.—END OF UPDATE

Sources tell Capitol Annex that Texas House Speaker Tom Craddick is working on a high-dollar fundraiser for State Rep. John Davis (R-Clear Lake) with none other than Karl Rove as the guest of honor. That’s actually a big bonus for TexBlog PAC Endorsed candidate Sherrie Matula. Donate now to help Kick Karl Rove To The Curb and elect Sherrie Matula.

Just the name “Karl Rove” carries with it such negative connotations that one must wonder exactly how this would be a good thing for Davis. In addition to Davis, Rove will reportedly be doing fundraisers for Jim Murphy in HD 133 (who is being challenged by Kristi Thibaut) and Ken Legler, who is running for Talton’s open seat in HD 144 against Joel Redmond.

links from TechnoratiThe more things change… John Davis is in trouble. Sherrie Matula is kicking his ass for being as useless as tits on a boar. She’s outraising him and now little Johnny is starting to freak out. So bad, in fact, that he’s requested none other than theelectorally toxic CradDICK and Karl “Buttertroll” Rove

links from Technoratis why he spends so much of his campaign cash on gasoline). He’s got numerous negative citations from the Texas Ethics Commission for lapses like buying $1,500 boots with campaign contributions. Too,he’s got ties to unpopular Republicans like Karl Rove, who came to the district to fundraise for him. Worse than perhaps all of that, is a litany of votes that are utterly beyond out of touch with his district. Endorsed by Annie’s List, TexBlog PAC, Parent PAC, and an outstanding fundraising numbers
