Noriega Campaigns In College Station As Cornyn Faces Controversy Over Ted Stevens Cash

While U.S. Senator John Cornyn was running for cover and hurrying to give away money from indicted U.S. Senator Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) yesterday, U.S. Senate candidate State Rep. Rick Noriega (D-Houston) was out on the campaign trail at a town hall meeting in Bryan.
New Texas blog Left In College Station liveblogged the town hall:
The first question was about education and what his views are on our education system. He talked about student grants, veterans G.I. Bill, and increasing teachers pay. Then Representative Noriega connected a strong education to his energy [policy] through the research and development that comes through research and development that causes breakthroughs in technology.
The second question was about the housing market and what his views are on the current economy and housing crisis. Representative Noriega commented how it is unfortunate that the current philosophy of bailing out the large corporations and leaving out the working class citizens.
Earlier this week, Noriega was in Wichita Falls:
When U.S. Senate candidate Rick Noriega hit town this morning, he came out swinging against his incumbent opponent U.S. Senator John Cornyn. “…We can continue to be an energy leader in this new energy economy, but we have to have the leadership and the vision to make that happen,” he said.
Noriega says the United States has to have a plan of attack that not only includes more energy conservation, but increased use of green energy and increased drilling for oil. “…In our plan, we have said that we are in favor of additional off shore drilling. We are accustomed to it as Texans. That’s what we have done for a long time as part of our economy,” says Noriega.
Noriega was quick to go after his opponent saying Senator Cornyn has taken money from oil companies. “… But he has received in excess of a million and change in political contributions from the big oil companines now and during his political career..”
Something Noriega says can no longer happen to serve the state. “…You can no longer put the special interests above Texas family’s interest.”
