Texas Republicans Frightened About Obama Surge On Election Day

If you need any further proof that Texas Republicans are scared to death that an “Obama Surge” could elect a massive number of Democrats to seats in the Texas House and Texas Senate, look no further than the latest email from Empower Texans PAC, an arm of right-wing Texans For Fiscal Responsibility:
There’s a situation brewing around the state that I wanted you to know about. Barack Obama’s financial influence is being felt in key legislative races; I am seeing it in the field reports I’ve been reading these last several days.
Are you seeing it in [YOUR TOWN]? I’d appreciate any news or anecdotes you might have about local races.
In just 13 weeks voters will go to the polls for what promises to be the most important election cycle in decades. The stakes are high. We have skyrocketing property tax burdens. Businesses are struggling with the new margins tax. Spending by local government is out of control. And everyone is worried about the stability of our economy.
Barack Obama and his team are focused on drawing Texas’ district lines and consolidating power with the grow-government crowd. That’s right – Obama is committed to spending money here so he can influence our redistricting battles! (See news links below.)
I guess we shouldn’t be surprised that the Republicans are fearful of what might happen in redistricting with a Democratic-controlled legislature. After all, a new redistricting plan might actually be fair with Democrats in charge (gasp!).
Still more to laugh at:
Do we want our Legislature filled with Barack Obama’s chosen candidates? I shudder to think what damage they would do on property taxes, spending, etc.
Last I was aware, Barack Obama wasn’t even a frontrunner in the presidential race when most legislative candidates announced or decided they’d seek office back in 2007. To say that Obama picked the candidates is both stupid and untrue.
Of course, EmpowerTexans Michael Quinn Sullivan ends with trying to frighten his GOP base with the thought of “millions” in Obama cash and “thousands” of liberal activists barnstorming across Texas (neither of which is really likely to happen quite as Sullivan describes it):
But our successes came before the Obamamania ran over Hillary… and before Team Obama decided to send millions of dollars (and a battalion of liberal activists) to Texas.
Some of our best friends in the Legislature are targeted by the far-left. The Money will be flowing liberally from Barack Obama’s coffers and friends.
[NAME], you and I have to step up stronger than ever to ward off this attck. Will you contribute to the Empower Texans PAC? Every penny is used to fight the bad guys and help the good guys!
From San Antonio to Hamlin, El Paso to Beaumont, we’ll win big or lose a lot. We have strong conservative candidates in race after race. To help them win, we need you.
Wow! Their best friends in the Legislature are being targeted by the “far left!” I can’t remember the last time a candidate for Legislature in Texas could actually be considered “far left.” While some of our Democrats may indeed be “left,” I think “far left” is one hell of a stretch.

Vince, you obviously weren’t in our smoke filled room. Barack Obama took special time out from his busy primary campaign to come to each of the 254 counties in Texas and meet with each of the county parties candidate recruitment committees.
He also made a point to let us know not to send any money his way, since Obama is planning to just send it all back to elect his hand-picked minions.
I can’t believe they’re onto our plans. Would have gotten away with it if it weren’t for those meddling kids.
