Congressman Louie Gohmert Makes Comparison Between Energy Independence Debate & Battle Over Slavery

Leave it to Texas Congressman Louie Gohmert (R-Tyler) to do something as stupid as compare the “energy independence” debates in Congress to the great debates over slavery that happened in the U.S. Congress well more than a century ago.
And, of course, his attempt to weasel out of it is caught on video:
You may recall that this isn’t the first time Gohmert’s loud mouth has gotten him into trouble.
A while back, he had his ass handed to him by Jack Murtha:
Gohmert, once called “chickenshit thief,” by a Congressional colleague (in addition having a daughter who has not-so-conservative photos all over Facebook and recently authoring an idiotic bill to move GUITMO detainees to the grounds of the U.S. Supreme Court building), authored an amendment that would have essentially killed the Reauthorization of the Voting Rights Act at one point in 2006, and did his best throughout the summer of 2006 to derail the VRA’s reauthorization. And, let’s not forget his mucking up of the famous “I Have A Dream” speech.
