TX HD 78: Dee Margo Releases Health Care Plan And We Wonder…Is This A Joke?
By Vince Leibowitz on Aug 11, 2008 in 2008 Texas Elections
The race for State Representative in House District 78 is one of the hottest in the state right now–and will likely continue to be until November. Republican Dee Margo, who carpetbagged into the district claiming he needed to move so his hired help wouldn’t have to climb the stairs and has no shortage of baggage, has decided to release a health care plan. To which we ask, “is this a joke?”
Here are some of the highlights of Margo’s “health care plan:”
Medical Malpractice Liability. Dee Margo believes that Texas should continue to protect its physicians and health care professionals from frivolous lawsuits, and he will file and support legislation that continues lawsuit reform, including annual evaluations of Texas’ medical malpractice liability insurance costs. By keeping costs under control and reducing frivolous lawsuits, more Texans will be covered by health insurance who would otherwise be uninsured.
Sorry, Dee, but that’s a huge load of bullshit. The Texas Observe has previously debunked the myth that med-mal tort reform has increased Texans’ access to health care or lowered insurance premiums.
Here is the plank on CHIP:
Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). Dee Margo will support legislation that will reduce barriers to CHIP and Medicaid enrollment, increase public outreach, and ensure that CHIP has greater transparency for taxpayers, legislators, and consumers. Furthermore, taxpayers must have the confidence that CHIP has instituted the highest financial controls to ensure that CHIP performs to the highest standards possible for the people it serves.
Basically, Margo is saying that he will support legislation to make it look like CHIP is accessible to more people but really wants to institute more barriers and make it more difficult for working Texans to get their kids covered. This is all nothing more than Republicanspeak.
You’ve got to be kidding. Surely this is a joke.
