Democratic National Convention Coverage: State Rep. Paul Moreno Will Stick With Clinton To The End

By Vince Leibowitz  on Aug 25, 2008 in Democratic National Convention 2008

Many Texas delegates to the Democratic National Convention from El Paso and the Rio Grande Valley are strong supporters of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton. And, at least one–State Rep. Paul Moreno (D-El Paso), will be sticking with her regardless of whether or not she releases her delegates. Via the El Paso Time’s Vaqueros & Wonkeros:

State Rep. Paul Moreno said Clinton can make whatever order she wants, but he’s still going to vote for her.

“It’s my conscience,” Moreno said. “I don’t support someone just for a moment.”

Moreno said Obama doesn’t understand Mexican-Americans or their struggles for civil rights.

“My main concern since I’ve been in politics is the underrepresentation of the Mexican-Americans,” he said.

Ramona “Monchi” De La Paz Torres said she’s sticking with Clinton, too.
“I hope she didn’t release me,” she said.

De La Paz Torres said she was disappointed that Clinton won’t be the party’s nominee for president or for vice president, but she’s still happy to be at the national convention.

“I’m very, very excited,” she said, “but at the same time a little sad.”

If I was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention, I, too, would probably cast my vote for Clinton. Although I fully support Sen. Obama, I feel that Clinton stuck out the race with her supporters, and we owe her that much back.
