“As rescue workers and first responders begin to assess the toll to lives and property and locate individuals in immediate danger, my thoughts are with the people of Houston, Galveston, and all those affected along the Gulf Coast by Hurricane Ike.
“At this challenging time, I urge all Americans to give what they can to charitable organizations providing aid to the victims and evacuees. And I applaud the work of the professionals and volunteers helping in the rescue and recovery.”</blockquote>
